Unpacking Brain Science
with The Royal Foundation
Earlier this year we were approached by The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, who were embarking on the creation of a new film series which sought to illustrate and explain the science behind everyday moments of connection that can have a long-term positive impact on a child’s life.
Based on their initial brief, we worked closely with the team to help identify the perfect creative to work on the visuals for each film, with illustrators Vicki Turner, Alec Doherty and Owen Gildersleeve being selected. Each artist was then partnered with our in-house Grand Motion animators, Plastic Horse, and sound designer Lost Machines to each work closely alongside the Centre team in producing three visually engaging animated films.
The series unpacks the brain science and explains key concepts behind the way nurturing interactions support the social and emotional development of babies and young children – laying the foundation for the skills that help us in adulthood.
Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was closely involved in the development of the films. She spent time with two of the illustrators and met early years practitioners who were involved in the development of the films during a creative workshop in June.
The result is three very different but equally compelling animated shorts that will be used by universities, charities and professional bodies around the country as a tool to have meaningful and consistent conversations with parents and carers about social and emotional development.
