Jessica is a textile artist and model maker specialising in creating tactile, handcrafted models and props. Her playful take on everyday items, intricately crafted in lambswool, are instantly recognisable and much in demand by fashion and media brands such as Tatler, Stylist, Liberty, Creative Review and ITV. Jessica knits all of her woolly creations on her vintage domestic knitting machine and sculpts the foundations of the models by hand in her studio.

"
This piece was a combination of machine knitting and hand embroidery, I like to combine processes to create something really unique.

It’s very hard not to be emotionally connected to what you are making, and that is not necessarily a bad thing, but sometimes things you may see as imperfections are actually what a viewer might love, because they show that what you have created has been made by the human hand.
"
There’s an element of sculpting involved when working in 3-D. Creating patterns for a curved surface is not an exact science, and can often take a few attempts, but it’s really satisfying when you crack it.
"
Working with photographers is a real collaborative process, there are often lots of practicalities to consider when working with textile pieces. It's great to see how photographers bring my pieces to life with lighting that really captures the form and texture.
"
I cannot tell you how much engineering went into the eyes, beak and crest... something that looks simple is usually the hardest thing to make, it needs to look effortless.
