Illustrator and artist Alec Doherty has been collaborating with the English National Opera this year on a special project designed to introduce music composition to primary school children.

As part of a journey through a series of contrasting musical 'worlds',  Alec created bold and imaginative visuals to reflect the different moods, which were created by composer Omar Shahryar and dramaturg Ruth Mariner. The visuals were animated by Tmax Films and combined with a live action film following the story of our composer, Omar, as he drafts his opera score with a live orchestra. The resulting film encourages children to finish off the composition that Omar began, and explore their own sounds and moods.

Alec was involved from start to finish in what has been a truly collaborative process, bringing together visuals and music for an enagaging schools programme.
